I just accepted a Network Support Specialist position?

ruger inquired:

I just took a job for a Network Support Specialist and I am close to having my degree in information technology. During my interview the director ask me if I could install software, change print cartridges, change internal pc hardware, and set up email accounts.

I can do all of the above and the pay is great but from the duties described doesn’t the job actually sound like a simple Tech Support, or computer support specialist job?

Also the company has over 400 pc’s but still to me this sounds like a cake job and will be very easy for someone with my experiance, what do you think?

BTW I am pumped about the job and can’t wait till the first monday of January to start.
I did accept it and I have my A+ cert along with 4 others. Also I am very happy to get it.

well, if you don’t have any other choices and other offers accept it. i do work as system administrator. well its the same routine you’ve described except i do it in school , dealing with kids, and with teachers.

dude its good start. my suggestion get yourself for A+ cert if ytou want to move ahead in IT field.

You will be supporting 400 PCs on a network. Changing printer cartridges, setting up email accounts and changing PC hardware is to be expected in your line of work. Its known as being versatile.
    Good luck and congratulations.

then where’s the problem? you got a job to maintain 400 PC’s irespective of whats wrong you will be mr fixit. changing print cartridges, software and hardware cool . No doubt you will be working on a LAN so all can be done sitting on you bum except for hardware and cartridge changes.

    First of all, Congratulations!

Yes, it might sound as a technical support. The title is misleading. Have you checked the job description (your scope of work)? The position might be an all-around IT guy which supports anything that can be plugged into an electrical outlet (yes, you have read it right…they may even call you if there is a problem on the oven).

Anyway, it is a bit of challenging and a good experience and entry in your CV.

    Enjoy your work and goodluck!!!
